On July 18, 2013, with a vote of 59-40, the U.S. Senate confirmed Gina McCarthy as the next Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”). Prior to her confirmation, Ms. McCarthy served as the EPA’s Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation, and as a Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. Ms. McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a joint Master of Science in Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy from Tufts University.
