On March 1, 2010, Larry Parkinson started work as the new director of the Division of Investigations at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC” or the “Commission”).  As Director of Investigations, Mr. Parkinson will report to Norman Bay, the head of FERC’s Office of Enforcement.

Previously, Mr. Parkinson served as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of the Interior for law enforcement security and emergency management.  Before joining the Department of the Interior, Mr. Parkinson served as principal legal advisor to Louis Freeh, former Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) director, and current FBI director, Robert Mueller.  Mr. Parkinson was name FBI General Counsel and Assistant Director in 1997.  Mr. Parkinson also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1986-1988 and 1989-1995.  His work included prosecuting large public corruption cases through the Department of Justice.  His two most prominent cases included the case of worldwide fraud with Bank of Credit and Commerce International and the U.S. House of Representatives Post Office Investigation.

Under his new role as the Director of Investigations, Mr. Parkinson will oversee FERC Staff investigations relating to any matter subject to FERC’s jurisdiction.
