On July 11, 2011, FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff announced that the Commission will engage in a public effort to “reassess and streamline” their federal regulations. The Commission is acting to implement President Barack Obama’s July 11th executive order that asks FERC and other independent regulatory agencies to develop and release to the public a plan, under which the agency “will periodically review its existing significant regulations to determine whether any such regulations should be modified, streamlined, expanded, or repealed so as to make the agency’s regulatory program more effective or less burdensome in achieving the regulatory objectives.”
Chairman Wellinghoff stated that “FERC welcomes the President’s new executive order for a more formal, public reassessment of our regulations and their effect on the economy.”
